Treatment aftercare
Microneedling aftercare: what to expect day by day.
The best aftercare is usually uncomplicated: protect freshly treated skin, keep your routine gentle and follow the advice given for your particular appointment.
Immediately after your appointment.
Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels in the skin. Straight afterwards, lighter skin may look pink or red while deeper skin tones may look temporarily darker. Warmth, tightness, tenderness and mild swelling are also possible. The response depends on your skin, the area treated and the intensity of the appointment.
Your skin should be left clean and comfortable. Avoid touching it unnecessarily, keep your hands clean and use only the finishing products or aftercare recommended to you. This is not the moment to add a new serum because it is popular online.
The first 24 hours.
Treat your skin as sensitive. Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours unless Lucy advises otherwise, and avoid hot baths, saunas, swimming and strenuous exercise that makes you very hot or sweaty. Do not pick, rub or use a cleansing brush.
If you need to wash your face, follow the timing and cleanser advice provided at your appointment. A simple routine is generally preferable to layers of fragranced or highly active products.
Days two and three.
Pinkness and warmth should begin to settle, although skin can still feel dry or tight. Keep cleansing gentle, moisturise as advised and protect your skin from the sun. Avoid deliberate tanning and do not use sunbeds.
Retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs and strong vitamin C formulas may be too irritating at this stage. Wait for Lucy’s guidance before restarting active skincare. If a product was prescribed by a healthcare professional, ask that professional before changing how you use it.
Days four to seven.
Most visible short-term reactions should be settling. Some people notice light dryness or flaking. Let this lift naturally rather than exfoliating it away. Continue with a calm routine and daily sun protection.
Recovery does not follow an exact clock. If your skin still feels unusually uncomfortable, contact Lucy before introducing your full routine again.
Preparing makes aftercare easier.
Before booking, tell Lucy about sensitivities, active breakouts, cold sores, recent sun exposure, skin conditions, medicines and prescription skincare. Do not stop prescribed treatment without guidance from the clinician responsible for it. If you have a wedding, holiday or important event coming up, leave enough time for your individual response to settle.

Microneedling aftercare FAQs.
How long does redness last after microneedling?
Temporary redness or a darker appearance, warmth and mild swelling can happen after treatment. Many reactions settle within a few days, but every skin responds differently. Follow the aftercare Lucy gives you and ask for advice if your reaction is worsening rather than settling.
When can I wear makeup after microneedling?
Plan to leave makeup off for at least the first 24 hours unless your practitioner gives you different advice. Applying products too soon can irritate freshly treated skin.
Can I use retinol or exfoliating acids afterwards?
Do not rush back to retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs or other strong active products. Lucy will tell you when to restart them based on your treatment and usual routine. Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to the clinician who prescribed it.
When should I ask for medical advice?
Seek prompt advice if you develop severe or increasing pain, significant swelling, blistering, pus, spreading redness, signs of infection or feel unwell. Contact your treatment provider as well as an appropriate medical professional when needed.
